How to sell a Story to the Film Industry?

Question by Tim: How to sell a Story to the Film Industry?
Okay, so I have written a nice action/adventure/horror story which consists of 120 pages. I can say it’s a mini novel, but with a great beginning, scenes description, adventure feeling and of course a nice end. I can’t uncover the plot though.
So my question is how to make it be sold in the film industry. I have read that I have to get an agent, so he can sell it to a producer. But the problem is that I have written a STORY and not a SCREENPLAY. I have read some good scripts like The Dark Knight, Terminator etc. but still I don’t think I can complete a screenplay myself as I have no experience in this job.
1. So will I be able to sell the story (through an agent) to a producer and then he will care about hiring a screenwriter?
2. If not, what should I do?
Thanks in advance.

The short answer is, “No.”
For a story to be desirable to a studio, it needs to show that it has a big market. In other words it needs to be published and to gain some level of acclaim. Otherwise, nobody cares. Ideas are ten a penny in film (even the good ones).
I’m a produced screenwriter with feature film and TV credits.
