What are good movie/video making programs that can do?

Question by colbyscott23: What are good movie/video making programs that can do?
Hey well my Windows movie maker is good and all but I want to be able to do more. My Nero 6 is crap I can’t make videos on it cause it wont let me cut the clips right and nothing is that great from what Windows movie maker has. So I’m searching for a movie maker that can play 2 different video clips at the same time. I think that is called picture in picture.

Ok well I read that video edit magic crashes and freezes up and doesnt work all the time so is there any other programs I can use to have these

Give effects to your videos and transitions.
Overlay one video over another.
Add a background score/voiceover to your video file.
Combine multiple file formats on the same timeline.
Incorporate text titles in your vid
Trim your videos and audios.
Change the color and contrast.
Zoom or rotate video angle.
Plz also a picture in picture green/blue screen would be good also.

Okay the two best ones for the PC are Adobe Premiere Pro and AVID DV express. They aren’t free though so you’d have to be willing to pay for them. But they really top any kind of the free-to cheap movie software you’d find. Premiere isn’t an amazing program, but it can handle all the stuff you mentioned, with probably the exception of “handling multiple file formats on the same line” Though it can probably do this all your file formats should be the same anyway, and I’m not really sure what specific formats your talking about. (if it’s a wmv it probably wouldn’t work)
But I would just download a free video converter to take care of that. It’s also really easy to use.

Avid DV Express, is a more in depth, powerful program I think, but it is a lot more complicated to use. It has more of a learning curve–which is why so many people prefer Premiere and Final Cut (Mac Program). So I would just go check out those two on the web (www.avid.com, www.adobe.com) and kind of see which one is more you. I know you can download trials of both at there websites. Avid also puts out a completely free version that you could use as well. It’s on their website to download.
