What is a good video camera/camcorder for film making?
Question by Travis B: What is a good video camera/camcorder for film making?
I’m am 15 and looking to start shooting private films and want to know what kind of camcorder would be best for the movies.I have actors for this but need a good camera for it! Any help would be appreciated! 🙂
(p.s. dont try to convince me making movies isn’t worth your time because enough people on here have already told me that and I am still going to be a movie director!)

Set up a budget. Include:
Camcorder, tripod (or other steadying device). The camcorder should have a mic jack and manual audio control. the least expensive I would recommend is the Canon HV40. You can start with a lesser camcorder, but expect to replace it fairly quickly.
Additional high capacity rechargeable battery from the camcorder manufacturer.
For editing, upgrade your computer if you need to.
Shotgun mic, boom, shockmount, fuzzy windscreen, wireless clip-on lavaliere (2 is better).
Video light, light trees and PAR56 cans and gels for 3-point lighting.
External audio recording device.
Cases to protect your investments.
You do not need to get all this when you start – this is just a hint at what you will need to consider as you go down this path. I’ve been collecting “stuff” for about 5 years and I am not yet done. This “hobby” is a money pit but I prefer it to many other potential activities.
Other things to think about:
How do you plan to fund your equipment acquisitions?
How do you plan to fund your productions?
How do you plan to fund your computer hardware and software upgrades for editing the video and the audio?
Planning and patience are VERY useful tools.
