My son is into making stop motion movies and I would like to purchase him a good digital video camera that would work well for this purpose. I have also learned that there is some good software for stop motion movies. Any advice would be great.

I think you can try Canon PowerShot A720IS..It takes pleasant pictures with good clarity and color, and the rich feature-set will satisfy both novice and experienced photographers..I find that a decent deal for it is only $ 194, you can have a look:
