Q&A: Best movie making software?

Question by Timothy: Best movie making software?
Ignoring price, what is the best video editing software to get? I want to buy the best software out there right now so I can just upgrade it when I need to and not buy a whole new editing software… One thing I really want is to be able to create text with effects in videos such as http://whoknew.news.yahoo.com/?vid=19728997 or http://media.asclive.org/post/231199078/stl-deliver or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVqqj1v-ZBU… So please, tell me what you guys think… I was thinking of getting Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 but can it do all that? (By the way, I am new at this but am young and ready to learn…)

I use MAGIX. I’ve tried both Movie Edit Pro 16+ and Video Pro X2. They have a medium to steep learning curve.

Adobe CS5 is powerful but requires a 64-Bit OS and 64-Bit machine. And is has a steep learning curve.

Final Cut Pro on the Mac side of things, is awesome. Expensive and has a steep learning curve.

Sony Vegas Pro has a fairly steep learning curve.

You can get the trial versions of the software mentioned for free at:

Hurry! Some of the trial versions only give you 7 days. So learn as much as you can.

Also, by playing with Windows Movie Maker, you can learn a lot about concepts. It’s free and already comes with Windows XP / Vista / 7 (if that’s what you have).
