What is the best movie editing software?

Question by Inimitable: What is the best movie editing software?
I’ve been editing movies for a while but have only used Windows Movie Maker. The films I make tend to be action and gun based films, so I’m looking for a software with good effects like muzzle flashes and maybe blood. I don’t really mind about the operating system, whether it is Apple or Windows.

All top audio/video editing is done with Apple software on Mac Pros.

Once again Apple is the king of any top audio/video editing.
But if you do it better have top processor and max ram because any audio/video editing is processor and memory intensive job – low end hardware will take forever to do the job.
