Q&A: Why are most of the movie makers ‘sold-out’ and try to make money instead of art?
Question by ComfortablyCold: Why are most of the movie makers ‘sold-out’ and try to make money instead of art?
Why are today’s movies/films and music made in such a way that they try to satisfy the bad taste of the majority. I see so many movies with tons of stereotypical scenes that make me sick. Why is there just a small minority of people willing to make movies or music without trying to indulge the tasteless mob with their peanut-sized brains.
Take “300” for example. I like history and I consider Spartans to be a fascinating topic and a material for a great movie. Instead I get this garbage movie that does Spartans and their culture no justice. The Immortals are portrayed as demons while Spartans are wearing no armor which is false. This movie is made by someone who loves money but doesn’t care about art – and he is just one of many.
Positive example in music is Mike Oldfield. This musical genius refused to put vocals in his Tubular Bells when requested by American studio. He barely managed to record his album, but today it is widely being considered as one of the best musical pieces ever. Positive example in movies is Donnie Darko, it’s a movie made by heart and brilliance of director’s mind – a movie that has a great artistic value.
Isn’t art supposed to be about creating masterpieces and not about money grubbing?
