Madan Pandit of Textual Analytics
instead of just classifying texts (anything from movie reviews or
scripts to resume, news articles or blog posts), Textual Analytics
attempts to draw out key concepts and topics, producing analyses that
consist of phrases and key excerpts that convey the flavor of the
text. The demo we saw was impressive, and Textual Analytics is
working with a content producer that is looking for a way to classify
its products before they are released. (It’s easy to do collaborative
filtering once a product is in the market, and to predict which users
will like B based on tehir affinity for A, but how do you predict the
product’s market "shape" – e.g. that the product *is* A-like and not
G-like – before you have any user data? That’s one of the problems
Textual Analytics hopes to help solve.) I really liked the demo,
but I haven’t had a chance to stress the system properly.
