A few film making questions?

Question by JesseTV: A few film making questions?
I’m making a Resident Evil-esque movie, designed to subtly poke fun at the early games in the series, while referencing some other stuff, but still all around having a serious tone. So I need help with equipment/software. My budget will be approximately $ 150-$ 200.

1: Most camera angles will be static, or having some basic movement. I don’t need a camera that boasts it’s ability to reduce motion blur (or whatever,) so what would you reccomend?

2: What would be a good freeware (not shareware, not illegal downloads, not trials) movie editing software that has some good, actually useful features, and not just a Windows Movie Maker clone? (ie: Filmstrip editing?)

3: What would be a good freeware software that would let me create simple CG effects (mostly explosions and classic RE style door opening sequences)

4. Any other advice?

It seems like you’re looking for a camera around $ 150 – 200. You don’t really need a great camera…I’d say maybe spend around 100-150 on the camera, then buy a decent movie editing program. I use and love Windows Movie Maker, but it can not do all the things you and I want it to do (namely CGI fx). I currently live in China, so I can’t help you out on the camera or editing software. But I will suggest you check out indymogul.com
They have tons of great videos for making films on a tight budget. They have awesome ideas for zombie movies and cheap ways to have decent looking effects.
Maybe check bestbuy.com for the camera and software…that way you can read honest reviews…also check amazon.com for good deals on cameras. I think the best advice I can give you tho is to be patient while editing. . . and check out indymogul.com
