My husband and I dated for 11 years, and got married 4 years ago (we’re both in our mid 30’s). Before we got married, we didn’t live together, so when we got married, we moved into his mother’s house to not only help her out financially but to help us out as well. (before you start thinking it, he’s not a ‘momma’s boy’ – his father is physically disabled and my husband is sort of the ‘man of the house’, fixing things and taking care of the house) Anyway, he’s always been kind and gentle with me, even though he’s a big guy. I noticed early in the relationship that his family isn’t that affectionate with each other, but I thought that that would change with me – and it has, somewhat. He’ll hold my hand in public, but he doesn’t like PDA. At home, he’s sweet and polite, always saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. Our sex life is fair, but we work separate shifts and it’s hard to find time to be together. We have a lot of common interests, and our time off together is spent doing something we both enjoy (trying new restaurants, traveling, concerts, movies). Sharing a house with his mother is a challenge as well, but she does do her best to give us our privacy and space. It’s rare that all 3 of us are home at the same time, so that does make it easier, I guess.

But my problem is this – I don’t think I want to be married to him anymore. I mean, I’m 35 years old, and I’m starting to feel like my life has been wasted. I wasn’t with anyone before him, and I would never cheated on him. We agreed to not have kids, but now my biological clock is ticking so loudly that it’s keeping me awake at night. Right now, we’re in marriage therapy, and I’ve told him all of this before, but I feel like he’s just not ‘getting it’.

I love him dearly, and can’t imagine life without him. But, at the same time, I feel like I’m being forced to choose between my husband or having a baby.
