Am Looking for Free Alternative to Windows Movie Maker?

Question by The Hidden: Am Looking for Free Alternative to Windows Movie Maker?
Looking for a free alternative to Windows Movie Maker [beta] 15.3.2804.607 from their beta Live Essentials. It has simple, clean interface, some nice title transitions, but… Lord only knows if they will add/fix what needs to be done , like sorting as we could in v6. Does not have a collections area like v6. A representative says she will “pass along my recommendations.” Also, since it relies on Explorer, and Vista can not show thumbnails (been working on this bug for over a year), very hard to see what I want to add from a glance. This is why too much integration into the OS is bad. Ug!

I am taking images and (selected parts of my) videos to combine them into a single AVI video to distribute. Titles, transitions, captions are all needed objects too. I like the cinematic ones WMM 15x has, but I can deal with standards for the three mentioned bits.

A program must have the combinations of features between Windows Movie Maker 6 and 15.3.2804.607, must be fully free with no options being kept back unless you buy, and must be something at least last updated no more than twelve months, to count on being an updated program by the developer(s).

Here is what I have tried that has been recommended to me:

> Avidemux, but it is not seem to be a movie maker but just a simple, single video editor.
> VirtualDub, but it seems to be just for making screen presentations.
> Debugmode Wax, but it does not like some files over another. For example, likes some AVIs over others. Will use a JPG one time but not another.
> Videospin, confusing if not buggy. I add in a video but it will not play (regardless of format). Does not like my images. Takes almost an hour (literally, I timed it) to load a 2M AVI file that WMM loads in a few seconds. Then, it still will not play it. The program can not be maximized to allow more viewing space.
> Handbrake, not sure what it is but the headache it gave me trying to figure out was not worth it.
> Vivia – The Video Editor, too old. Not updated in three years.

Any thoughts? Anything better than what has been mentioned? Must be freeware and for Windows Vista and/or XP.

Thank you and God bless.
