it can take anywhere from six or seven months to draw an animated movie to several years. each frame is hand drawn, and even with a huge staff of artist, it will be a slow process. drawings are traced onto clear cells for painting before being place on top of background cells for photographing. each second of movement can be 16 different cells in an average movie, and 24 in a great movie. it all depends on your budget and deadline. once you figure in “inbetween” animators, special affects animators, and the like, it could cost millions of dollars and take years to complete. this is the reason no one draws by hand in america anymore and instead we contract overseas. thats’ a shame, but the economics of hand drawing make it almost a must.
