Anthony Hopkins Filmography
Sir Anthony Hopkins, the legendary, extremely talented British actor, has almost completed fifty years of film-making, having gained various accolades including an Oscar and having been rewarded with a Knighthood. No worthy Anthony Hopkins filmography can pass over his credits also as a movie director, a producer, a writer, a narrator, a composer of movie music scores and his solo pianist performances. He even released a single in 1986, singing “A Distant Star” – Anthony Hopkins’ versatility is staggering, not least as an actor.
It is hard to believe, given the length of Anthony Hopkins movies list, that the actor had long periods of ‘resting’, not by choice, before his Oscar-winning Hollywood performance as Dr Hannibal-the-cannibal Lecter back in 1991.
Hopkins has played various legendary
characters in history, such as Burt Munro (land-speed record breaker) in “The World’s Fastest Indian” in 2006, President Richard Nixon in “Nixon” 1995, Charles Dickens in “The Great Inimitable Mr Dickens” in 1970 and Doctor Frederick Treves in “The Elephant Man” 1980 to name a few. Hopkins has a well developed skill in voice mimicry, for which he is celebrated and united with his precise character studies, research and acute attention to detail, it is no surprising news to find out he is due to take up the role of Alfred Hitchcock, with his distinctive voice in a new film called “Alfred Hitchcock and The Making of Psycho”. In 1991 when the movie “Spartacus” was restored (originally made in 1960) Anthony Hopkins was selected to do the voice-over for the by then deceased legendary actor Sir Lawrence Olivier. In the 1978 movie “Magic” Hopkins presentation as the unstable
Corky Withers in the sinister romance film about a vicious ventriloquist’s dummy, was a success due to Hopkins attending lessons to become a ventriloquist and mastering the craft skillfully.
Anthony Hopkins has recently been part of a wave of computer generated image films (CGI) in first “Beowulf” and then “The Wolfman”, which have both received mixed reviews, although I for one thoroughly enjoyed them both on my home cinema, with their special effects and the surround sound full on! There seems to be much speculation about whether such eminent actors will be lost to the next generation with these CGI movies and also comic book inspired movies such as “Thor” in which Hopkins plays the part of Odin, due to be released in 2011.
However, Anthony Hopkins could afford to be complacent nowadays, financially and in terms of his acting achievements, which
date from 1967 on screen, encompassing credits in TV films, dramas, series and documentaries, as well as all the movies – an impressive Anthony Hopkins filmography list which is set to grow with all the new movies he has committed to. The latest news is Hopkins is in talks about a part in the new 3D movie “Arabian Nights” which is due to start shooting this year – he has been presented a part as a villain, being no stranger to those such parts as he was voted as the top movie villain character for his rendering of Dr Hannibal Lecter in the Oscar-winning movie “The Silence of The Lambs”.
Juliette Morgan has followed Anthony Hopkins, this great British actor’s career for many years now, having built up a vast collection of his movies, biographies and books relating to various movies. Juliette shares her passion with others so they can discover for themselves what a versatile, clever actor he is.
