Make sure the blood you use is good! As soon as an audience sees some ultra fake tomato sauce or something you’re film will lose all respect. I think with a vampire film you will need some really good costumes and hair and makeup, as well as good acting for the vampires. If an amateur film can pull off a believable vampire you will gain the attention of your audience. But yeah don’t cheap out on the blood. I hear tomato PASTE is actually ok.
And the most important thing is have an original take on the vampire theme. Everyone is over Dracula and the war between vampires and others beings… Think about how you can break the stereotype or place vampires in a human like experience. For example, a vampire family at the dinner table, that could be funny and draw the attention of the audience.
Some other ideas could be a vampire school or a vampire cooking show.
The biggest mistake that people make with amateur film is that they don’t write script. Write one, if you don’t you’ll regret it! Good luck!
