Contact
Written by famed cosmologist Carl Sagan,
“Contact” is the story of the SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestial Intelligence) organization and their attempts to make contact with aliens. When they hear what sounds like a message from the star Vega, the National Security butts in and attempts to take control of the facility. Eventually, the nations come together to fund a machine based on technical blueprints the messages have sent for the US to build to establish contact. One of the scientists makes the trip and finds herself traveling through a series of wormholes and makes contact with an alien lifeform taking the shape of her father who tells her to tell Earth’s inhabitants to prepare for more instructions and further steps in space travel. It is one of the more serious and realistic films about how humans might actually be able to travel far distances in space (wormholes) to reach other galaxies.

Encounters of the Third Kind
This cult 1997 science fiction film written and directed by Steven Spielberg won numerous awards and praise for its production values and series tone about a subject many still see as a silly subject: alien abduction. Richard Dreyfuss plays a electrical lineman who has a close encounter with a UFO but his family does not believe him until a mother ship lands in Wyoming and starts unloading people it had abducted over the years. The government gets involved and selects a group of people to make contact and board the ship.
