“Bleachers” by John Grisham–turning into a movie??
Question by nick: “Bleachers” by John Grisham–turning into a movie??
I LOVED “Bleachers” by Grisham!! I was ALWAYS looking for a book like this–Football (the GREATEST sport known to man), past glories, heartbreaks, and broken dreams.
Im only in college, but I can relate to MANY things in this book (No I wasn’t an all-American in high school btw). This book made me CRY!!–It was AMAZING!! I think this is one of the very few books I could read over and over again and enjoy. Anyways…..
I love these “high school reunion”– “looking-back/nostalgia”, kind of books ……are they making this into a movie??–wikipedia doesnt say anything about it…..but Grisham makes a lot of books into movies. And if it is directed well, it could make an INCREDIBLE movie!!
One more thing…..if anyone knows any other books that have similar writing and themes such as this one PLEASE tell me the titles and authors!! Thanks!!

Try The Last Best League: One Summer, One Season, One Dream by Jim Collins (baseball, but about dreams of players, coaches, etc.)
Friday Night Lights–Texas football, but so much more!
Season of Life: A Football Star, a Boy, a Journey to Manhood by Jeffrey Marx
The Sweet Season: A Sportswriter Rediscovers Football, Family, and a Bit of Faith at Minnesota’s St. John’s University by Austin Murphy
Carlisle vs. Army: Jim Thorpe, Dwight Eisenhower, Pop Warner, and the Forgotten Story of Football’s Greatest Battle by Lars Anderson — Pop Warner is the guy who created a lot of standard plays, tearaway jerseys and more. I’ve always been a fan of Jim Thorpe, arguably the best athlete ever, and thought this was a cool book.
Also, have you read “PLaying for Pizza” by Grisham? Pro-football player ends up in Italy after bonehead play and has to learn about the country, the food, and what he is really playing for.
Hope you find something good!
PS Saw your name– have you read Dixieland Delight: A Football Season on the Road in the Southeastern Conference by Clay Travis ? Funny stuff! He and a buddy decide to attend a game in each of the SEC schools.
