Question by Organ M: Can I Make a Movie Based on Short Story?
I want to make a short film based on a short story by Terry Pratchett. It was written in 2002 for a now defunct website. This video would only be released on Youtube for fun.

What is the copyright info around this? Do I need permission to make the video? I don’t want to make the video and get hauled off to court in a few months.

If it’s just for fun…and you’re not making any capital gain off of the author’s idea…then you should be in the clear. Just to be safe, though, indicate in your short movie where you got the idea from and that it is not your idea.
