Can you get film from a cassette onto the computer?
Question by The Master of Puppets: Can you get film from a cassette onto the computer?
Me and my buddies are making our first movie, and unfortunately, we’re using a cassette/film camera. Can you plug these into the computer and edit them, or do you have to do the old rewind, tape over technique? If so, how do you do that?

It depends on the camcorder you are using.
Analog tape camcorders using beta, VHS, VHS-C, Hi8 and a few others would require you to get a capture card or “analog/digital bridge” like those from Pinnacle (Dazzle) or Canopus (ADVC55).
Digital tape camcorders using miniDV, Digital8 or others can connect directly to your computer if your computer has a firewire port – and you will need to get a firewire cable… If your computer has no firewire port, then add one if there is an available expansion slot. USB won’t work. USB-to-Firewire cable/hub/adapter/converter things won’t work.
Since you did not provide manufacturer, model number or video storage media information, there’s not much more we can do to provide assistance.
