Careers in monster making, pupetteering, and movie makeup….?
Question by DingoJane: Careers in monster making, pupetteering, and movie makeup….?
So I am half done with my art degree and now need to make the decision of where exactly to take it.
I think I want to work for someone like Jim Henson. (not, him personally, i know hes not alive). I want to make monsters for films and special effect creatures.
How do I get into this exactly? Should I just stock up on sculpture and makeup classes?
Anyone actually IN this field can give me advice on the money, hours, fun, etc?

Do the sculpture and makeup classes, but also take some computer and graphic design classes. They are doing lots of monster modeling with computers nowadays in order to simulate how things move. Make friend with people who know something about computer game design. Those guys may know something about monster design. Or start trolling the comic and sci-fi conventions. You have to go where the action is.
