Custom Corset Pattern using Duct Tape

Using duct tape, an old shirt, some black permanent marker and a good friend, you can make your very own custom corset pattern. (While it is theoretically possible for one to make a duct tape pattern of oneself, it is strongly NOT advised). Since the duct tape is flexible enough to shape around all your body’s curves but also strong enough to not tear, it can make a near-perfect replica of your torso so your corset pattern will fit like a glove. This technique is useful for both overbust and underbust style corsets. After wrapping yourself/ your model in duct tape, mark the lines where you would like the top and bottom edges of the corset. Also mark the waist line and center front/ center back. Cut the duct tape off of the model, and cut along top and bottom edge lines you created. Then mark and cut the separate panels, trying to keep them as flat as possible so each panel can be easily transferred to paper or fabric. Remember that this pattern will not have seam allowances, so add those in when transferring to fabric. One benefit to using this technique is that all seams should be true (matching seams should be the exact same length).
