Did Dorian Gray actually make a conscious decision to “sell his soul to the devil”?
Question by : Did Dorian Gray actually make a conscious decision to “sell his soul to the devil”?
Basically, I want to know if those words were spoken or if it was a matter of him just choosing to live a life leading to degradation without ever actually saying, you know, “I’m willing to sell my soul to the devil to live this life.”
I’m referring mostly to the movie Dorian Gray but I would like to know if this is stated in Oscar Wilde’s book as well.

In the book it is very much a decision made by Dorian, but he does not believe it would actually happen, hence all his surprise when it occurs. Blame Henry, it’s all his fault.
