Does making a movie break any copyrighting laws?
Question by Chicklet: Does making a movie break any copyrighting laws?
I want to Make a movie that is exactly like pages 63-75ish in New Moon, the second book in the Twilight Saga written by Stephenie Meyer. There will be that particular scene (I’m not going to mention what it is because of spoilers) and I’m going to tag another sceneish of Bella dreaming which will not be exactly as the book. I want to post this movie on the internet, with, of course, Stephenie’s name posted as owner of everything in it (except for my acting skills) (ex. Resource: New Moon © Stephenie Meyer, title © Stephenie Meyer, characters © Stephenie Meyer etc.) as well as a link to Stephenie’s website. This video would be a non-profit video that I would put on YouTube, Facebook Windows Movie Maker videos etc.
So, could I get persecuted by doing this? I can’t find a way to contact Stephenie so that I can ask permission. I know that there are a lot of people who are making parodies to Stephenie’s books, but none of them are using the exact same script as in her book… What should I do? What CAN I do??
By the way, everyone involved in this movie would be/are amateurs… non professional.
Thanks!

I believe this falls under Fair Use, meaning it is completely legal.

Now, if you were to reproduce the entire book, and publish it for profit, that might make the author upset. But what you are doing is fine.
