Fellow Christians who are scientists: What say you about a literal 24 hour/“day” creation?

Question by yachadhoo: Fellow Christians who are scientists: What say you about a literal 24 hour/“day” creation?

My background as an atheist and a scientist, I “knew” that the universe was millions or billions of years old, if not eternal. I “knew” that, somehow, amino acids and proteins had come together to form the first forms of life on our planet. I also “knew” that via Darwinian evolution, life begat higher and higher forms of life, up to and including humans. I also “knew” that consciousness somehow developed and existed, but that God did not exist.

But then in college, when reading the Bible to prove it wrong, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob revealed Himself to me.

After this, as a child of God, I did not see Genesis definitively refuting Darwinian evolution or refuting a universe older than 6000 years. Perhaps, then, I was a creationist who believed God created the universe millions or billions of years ago and created man through the process of evolution…and weaved my interpretation of scripture to fit what I knew as a chemical engineer, and now as a medical doctor.

However, it is now science that persuades me that the theory of “Darwinian evolution” is incorrect.

As if this wasn’t enough to make my head spin, I have been recently presented the possibility of a literal 6000 year old universe…with enough scientific evidence backing up this theory to make you shake your head in absolute disbelief ~ including observable scientific data that shows our methods of dating things via potassium argon as well as by radiocarbon can lead to incredibly exaggerated and erroneous and absurd results.

Any mathematician or statistician knows that extrapolation of an equation describing real-world data much beyond observable data leads to disastrously erroneous and absurd conclusions, so what makes us trust the gross extrapolation of our dating techniques “millions” of years into the past, anyway?

Am I missing something here? Or am I on to something?

I read Lee Strobel’s book “Case For a Creator”, and I am disgusted by some of the things I was taught to “know” in school. I was literally brainwashed with lots of garbage pawned off as fact and truth, not to be questioned, but accepted on “faith”.

And at the same time, non-Christians such as Ben Stein, are actually making movies (among other things) to show how atheistic scientists are “persecuting” any scientist who presents any observable data that would suggest that Darwinian evolution to be false:

It appears I was “indoctrinated” with a naturalistic, materialistic, evolutionistic, atheistic world-view through the telling and retelling of deceitful lies masked behind the noble pursuit of truth. Yet, now it seems such “truth” is being suppressed by those who hold such noble positions within the field of science, which – at heart – exists to seek out answers to explain the universe and our existence.

…which leaves me left wondering…

Is there any legitimacy at all to a 6000 year old universe?

How exactly were you a scientist before college? I smell BS.
