“Fengdu – The Ghost City, on the Yangtze” Elissabeth417’s photos around Fengdu, China

We were supposed to get up and go to Tai Chi, but sleeping was more important(in the end it turns out that Tai Chi never happened anyways, so it was a good thing we slept!). Breakfast was a buffet included in the price of our tickets,so we tried to fill up before heading out to The Ghost City of Fengdu! At 8:30am we docked, disembarked, and took a tour bus through the demolished old Fengdu City. It had to be moved across the river onto higher banks since the old city will be covered in water once the dam is opened and the river is flooded. The old city was torn down and now the ground must be covered in cement so the mountain the Ghost City is on will not crumble into the water. It was virtually impossible to see the Ghost City that was atop the mountain from below, but we could see the chair lift which indicated there was something important at the top of the mountain! It was already 40C so our local tour guide pretty much demanded that everyone pay the extra money and take the chair lift up. Fine by me since I wasn’t planning on climbing the 400+ steps anyways. Our local guide was fairly informative, so we did learn quite a bit about the local lore. Typically, the Chinese believe that when one dies, they must go to the Ghost City
