Canon Legria HF S21 Shot at 25fps in bright daylight, Vivid setting Handheld, with Image Stabilization in some parts Aperture Priority for some shots (2.2 – 2.8) Edited in iMovie 09 Despite what Apple and Canon say, the PAL Legria model of this camera is NOT entirely compatible with iMovie 09 when shot at 50i. This was a huge disappointment to say the least and I only found this out when shooting, despite doing much research before purchase. I think the Vixia model is ok with Mac, but with the Legria, iMovie has problems with the interlacing when shot at 50i as it does not recognize it as interlaced. The workaround is to shoot at 25fps, or to shoot on 50i and then when importing to iMovie 09, import as Large format, not original size. This will slightly downgrade your file, but it somehow sorts out the problem of interlacing. Apple and Canon both write that this model IS compatible with iMovie, but it is not entirely true when shooting at 50i. I hope software will catch up and Apple will release an update to iMovie to correct this problem for PAL countries! I still haven’t figured out the best settings for saving on iMovie with this new camera so I’m not sure if the quality could be even better. I don’t know how this camcorder works with Windows and Movie Maker. Other than that I am very pleased with the sharpness of the video.
