Help me set up Dramatic Play for 3 and 4 year olds at my Nursery Lab?

Question by Lynn: Help me set up Dramatic Play for 3 and 4 year olds at my Nursery Lab?
In a month or so I have to set up a Dramatic Play scene for 3 and 4 year olds at a nursery school on campus that I am working in this semester.
My choices are newsstand or beach.
The Nursery Lab has many play items that I can use but I also have to bring some items (costumes, props, and things to set the stage).
I am thinking about doing the newsstand because I can think of a bunch of things and because reading is important.
I would like any suggestions of items to use (recycled items, things around the home, etc.) Please be creative!
Obviously I can bring newspapers, magazines, make movie posters, etc. Any other ideas and ideas on what I can bring as costumes? (Children love to dress up!)
I would like ideas for the beach to if there are any!
THANKS!

For newstand: I’ve never done this with kids, but your ideas are good. Bring in some old newspapers. Have a desk for the kids to write their own news…a writing desk, paper, clipboards if you have any, and pencils. If you can get an old keyboard, put this is so they can “type”. For dress ups, this is tough. Maybe some caps, ties, and suit jackets?
For the beach: This is a dramatic play I have done before. You can bring in beach chairs, empty sunscreen bottles, towels, books about the beach, and put a sand table in the area. It is also really fun to make a game so that they can go fishing. If you get some fun foam, you can cut out fish shapes. Tape or hot glue a paper clip to the fish. Then make simple fishing poles (a ruler with a string at the end…tape a magnet onto the string…something like that). You can write letters on the fish to turn it into a matching game.
