Help with my Dish Network IR remote.?

Question by James: Help with my Dish Network IR remote.?
Two weeks ago I had the Dish network installed. The first day TV1 remote (IR) and TV2 (UHF) both worked fine. The second day, TV1 only worked when I held it 1 -2 inches away from the receiver, TV2 continues to work fine. I followed all trouble shooting steps in the manual to no avail. Dish sent me a new remote but it behaved the same way. Yesterday morning, the receiver was making a strange sound so I unplugged it. After starting back up, the remote worked great. Last night we watched a DVD on our Bose system (Dish receiver runs through the Bose) and after the movie the remote no longer worked. Does anyone have any clues? Dish does not seem to.

Make sure that on the remote you select the ‘SAT” key on top before you use it. If it is in “TV” or other mode, it will definitely not work.
Make sure the IR path to the set-top box is not blocked either
Does the Dish remote work with other devices? (Another Dish receiver , the TV, or a DVD player?) If yes, the problem may be with IR receiver in the set-top box itself. It is very unlikely that two remotes are broken.
