Question by HaggardTNT: How do you sell a screenplay?
I do not work for anyone in the film industry. I have a brilliant script, and more in progress, and I have to start at the very bottom to get it produced. Where do I begin? Detail please.

You purchase or subscribe to the HCD–Hollywood Creative Directory–in two different editions, one for agents and representatives, one for production companies. You write a brilliant query letter and mail it to agents who have sold similar work in the last three years (do your homework) and to production companies who have made similar films with similar production budgets in the last three years (oh boy, more homework).
Be aware that it’s depressingly common for there to be no reply despite your SASE. It’s also common, if your letter is terrific, to get a phone call saying something like, “Script sounds good, but I can’t use it right now. What else you got?” If you have two equally polished scripts in two other genres, you’re golden. If you have only the one, you’ve shot yourself in the foot.
