Production companies DO NOT accept unsolicited scripts. This means a writer can’t just send in a script. You need to get a literary agent. They will send it in for you.

In your script, you need to have a 1 sentence statement called a One-Liner. This is what will capture the reader right off the bat. Often, the producers won’t even look passed the one-liner. If the one-liner isn’t phenomenal, they literally throw the script away. You also need a good one page synopsis, an amazing treatment, and wonderful tag lines. Without these simple things, your script will NEVER be looked at. A good reference book is “Teach Yourself Screenwriting” by Ray Frensham. I know that sounds ridiculous. However, many of the top colleges in the country, including the University of Notre Dame use this book in their screenwriting classes.

When you get an agent, they’ll deal with all of the legal stuff. That’s what they’re there for.
