Question by Kasey-Lynn: How to go about making a movie?
My sister and I and a good few of our friends all came up with an idea for a movie. I need to know how about making it at least decent on a low budget? Please, just any ideas you could give me about making a movie would be wonderful.

hi kasey, first of all, you have to consider a lot of things in order to make a movie, an idea is the first step. you then need to write the idea into a story, not a story as an art form, but to know the plot, characters, events, beginning, development and ending of the story, you begin to write it into a screenplay. i dont know much about screenwriting, but there are great books on how to write a screenplay, like Story by Robert McKee, also there are tips online on how to write scripts, but not as detailed, and professional as books. You also need screenwriting software, like movie magic screenwriter, final draft, etc. you need actors obviously, lol. they dont have to be high caliber actors, they could be friends, or relatives even without any acting experience. once you have a script, actors, dont know if its a movie to show for friends or family or for distribution. if its for the latter, and you have the money, then theres no need for someone to back the movie up financially. if not, you need a producer, and investors interested in your project. if you re gonna shoot exteriors, you need film permits from your local or county film commission or municipality, and the costs for those permits. ah yes, most important, you need a camera, lol. borrow one, rent, or buy one, digital video camera recommended, it makes editing easier, you also need an editing station like Avid Pro. a steadicam makes it a lot easier to hold. you have to pitch your idea/story/project to a producer to see if hes interested in putting the money. having a producer, a producer organizes the production, oversees it, etc. also remember LIGHTING which is vital to moviemaking, lol. there are also books about cinematography or basic lighting for movies. so many other things depending on what you wanna make. the stages of movie making, preproduction, production or principal photography, and postproduction, which involves the sound, editing, music, etc.
