How to go about writing a movie?
Question by AJ: How to go about writing a movie?
I had a dream last night that was very detailed and would make an awesome movie! I have no background in writing, film, acting or anything like that but how would I go about writing a script or making this into a movie? Is there someone I could contact to give them my idea?

This has happened to me many times. First thing to do is write down the dream…as much detail as possible. Close your eyes and remember the description of the characters, the colors of the background, the actions and dialogue. Describe your feelings about what is going on. If you are not a writer, ask a friend to help you with writing. Believe me, it is hard to “make it” as a film writer. Most films today are written by professional screenwriters. Many scripts are based on books that have been written and purchased by movie companies to be turned into films. As you probably know, too many movies are ruined because the screenwriter did a lousy job of translating the book into a good screenplay. The original author had a picture (or a dream) in mind for a story. When a reader reads the images from the book are interpreted in the reader’s own mind and are unique. A screenwriter has to construct the characters and settings, dialogue and movement that can be adapted to filming. This is the hard part. If you are lucky to know someone in the film business, maybe you can share your dream with that person. You can also protect yourself by “COPYRIGHTING” YOUR IDEA before you show it to ANYONE or you may never gain anything from it.
