How to make Clay Animation (Claymation): How it works

Claymation, or clay animation, is the process of making a movie using clay models. Making a Claymation or stop-motion animation is easier than you think. You can make the clay animation by two ways either by using a digital camera, taking a series of pictures, and collecting them to produce motion, or using stop-motion photography that will produce an animation as well.

While it is very tempting to launch straight into your claymation character and movie set, it is the wrong place to start. It is the art of making clay move, with effects like dancing, singing, jumping, walking, talking, and anything you can think of.

Animation

First need digital camera or camcorder 2 spools of wire (1 thin/1 thick) tool to cut wire at least 2 blocks of clay 1 spool of tape

For making the clay animation, you need to character. Make a model clay character for the movie creation. With the use of a spool of wire create the torso, limbs, and a neck. After creating a skeleton frame for the character, make muscle mass for the character. Cover the torso, limbs, neck and all parts of the body with clay. Make sure that the wire skeleton will be at the center of the muscle mass. This is to prevent the character from ripping out once the character is moved.

Set up your camera on a table with tape if you have no tripod. Then put your figure in place. After setting it up all you have to do is take a picture, move the figure a little, and repeat a thousand times.
