I am thinking about becoming a director so Im making a movie wit some friends and I want it to turn out really good. I need a camera that will be able to catch whispers and that will help me work with sound issues like wind and echoing. A light on the cam would also be nice. The best picture quality possible in my budget range (which is 500-1000 dollars) would be best. Can someone suggest 3 cameras: one in the 500-650 range, one in the 650-800 range, and one in the 800-1000 range. Thank you so much. (also, if the person answering is a director, can u tell me what its like?)

Provided that you have some good compositions skills, a good story, and solid post production skills, here are some nice cameras that shoot video. The color depth to these provide great picture. I used the Canon 5d mark 2. Wow Amazing! It is a little pricier but if you want it to look real nice, then you should pay a little extra.

As for audio. You will need lavalier microphones, or boom mics, that you can hook up to the camera. Do not record a dialogue straight off the camera. That would be disastrous. Good audio is the next most important element to separating your movie from the amateur bad ones.

Not sure what you are filming, but you can also attach lighting to your camera setup. It’s called a Frezzi light. Used mostly for filming in dark spaces, to light people at nightclubs or out in the forest during for a horror movie. Its not super strong and you’ll need a few batteries as a backup.

Don’t forget you’ll need tripods and some good lighting as well. If you don’t have the budget for lighting, then try to use the sun as your lighting source with reflectors to soften the lines on your actors.
