Question by Hugh K: I burned a DVD using Nero, but my Sony DVD player does not play it.?
I am using Nero 7 ultra edition and SONY DVD disk (4.7 GB, I am not sure if it’s DVD-R or DVD+R). I got some movies in Divx format and was trying to burn a DVD so that I could watch it on TV.
The Nero 7 I am using seems to be very easy to make a DVD. I selected “make movie”, which showed me 3 options; Video, Super Video, and DVD. I selected DVD, followed simple procedure and finally clicked on “burn”. While it shows movie on the display at the right upper corner, it shows the progress at the bottom. Finally, the burning process was done after about an hour. I put it in the Sony DVD player, which did not play it just saying “PLAYBACK CAN NOT BE PERFORMED BY AREA LIMITATIONS.”
I am not sure if this is a regional code issue or different movie format issue. I am also wondering if the Sony DVD player does not play some types of DVD. Since I am using Nero English version, there shouldn’t be an area issue.
I am so frustrated now because of this that got me almost whole day. Please help!
If I want to buy a new one, which make do yall recommend? Or which make should I stay away from?
Thanks…
Okay, here’s an update. I downloaded a software that converts DVDrip or Divx type of files to avi. After converting my file to avi, I burned a DVD again and played it on my dvd player. It works!
So looks like the problem is that my dvd player can’t play a dvd that is burned from DVDrip or Divx file format, and I need to buy one if I don’t want to convert every single file to avi before buring sacrificing time and quality, right???
Thanks for your help again!

download Convert X to DVD, and run it thru there…. it will convert it so a format that all DVD players will play.
