Question by Jade: I need your advice on a movie I’m making.?
Me and a couple of my friends are making an epic movie. Of course I want fighting to be a big part in the movie so I need some advice on this. I was thinking since all of my friends and I that will have fighting parts in the movies already have a black belt or higher in a martial art, we could actually fight for those scenes. Of course holding back some what, but none the less there will be contact. I was wondering if this could be a good idea or would it be better to do it without contact. Oh and there will be no weapons use in the movie only hands and feet.

I think contact is fine. If you are all black belts the you have good control and are unlikely to hurt each other, plus it would look MUCH better to actually make contact in most shots. However, there are ways to miss a person but make it look as if you’ve hit them, and it can look even more spectacular. Try renting a good stunt movie and watch the behind-the-scenes documentaries to see how they do stuff like that.
