I was thinkin about becoming an actor or musician?
Question by At yur service: I was thinkin about becoming an actor or musician?
First off I just want to start out saying that I realize that this is no easy goal or task to complete. I know it can be quite a long journey, but I’m 16, I think that journey will be enough time. And I know what you’re thinking, “well he’s foolish and young, he’ll change his mind and pick another career.” You’re probably right, but for the time being, this is what I want to do. So what got me motivated was the fact of being able to work with some of my idles whether being in the fields of music or in the fields of theater. I haven’t had a lot of practice with either one, besides auditioning to myself in the mirror and writing lyrics on my computer (I know, really cheezy lol). But I live in columbia, south carolina. I did research and I’m just now finding out that The Notebook and a lot of other good movies were filmed here and I was doing research on what it took to make it as an actor or musician in SC. I found out that I had to have a passion for one and/or the other. I have an extreme passion for music, and I can play the piano, by ear, my voice is okay and I would LIKE to play the guitar. As for acting, I think it would be interesting to me. The most practice I’ve had with acting is infront of my bathroom mirror. So like I said, I’ve done some research and I’ve figured out quite a number of things:
Acting
1. Passion- This is easy to me, I Can make myself become physically and emotionally thaylt character, I know that I MUST become the character.
2. Experience- Like I already said, The most experience comes fro
the bathroom mirror
3. Charisma- it’s very easy for me to get along with someone.
4. Manager- this is somebody who has connections with agencies that could get me known and possibly promote me to bigger and better roles. I’ve seen a couple of websites that could assign me a manager, that is, if the manager sees something in me
5. Commitment- 9 times out of ten I will never walk out or give up on an opporitunity
6. Confidence- probably my weekest point. I’m probably the most insecure person ANY of you would ever meet in your life.
7. Willingness- well I get freightened when I get in front of an audience or people who I can tell don’t see a lot in me, which i figure I’ll grow out of.
8. Creativity- If I sit and think hard, I’m extremely creative and a hard thinker. I’m thinkin about saving up and getting a MacBook since they have great reviews and software for photo and video editing. Maybe I can try my hand at YouTube.
Location- My teacher told me that Columbia, SC is an excellent place to get discovered because of the simple reason that there isn’t a lot of competition, as opposite for places like Cali or York
Music
Passion- I have about 20 lyrics I’ve created saved on my computer and I cannot love without my iPod. I think I have an alright voice and with lessons, I would be a great pianist.
What music means to me- There is no answer because different music strikes different cords.
Experience- I practice singing everyday and try to record it onto my iPod and play it back often. I play the piano keyboard by ear very well by ear but would like to learn how to read it as well. Guitars interest me too; I love the sound.
Manager- same as acting
Commitment- Im not very confident about my voice or my piano skills, I get very scared in front of crowds. When I get the age, i could start performing at bars and night clubs to help put myself out there
Willingness- I’m NOT willing to stand in front of an audience and sit there and sing and play an instrument, at least not until I get more practice on both
Creativity- I’m creative whe it comes to music as well, when I get the MacBook, I could use garage band to actually start making music and demos and putting songs on YouTube to let people hear. I think I’ll start out woth YouTube first though and let the Internet crowds judge my music first
Location- Sam as acting
My questions are
Do you think I have a shot at at either? Which one do you think I’d be better at? Do you have anymore tips? Should I go for these kinds of things? Tell me more please!!!! Thank you all

You have at shot at both. Your great personality shows through your writing. And I’m fifteen and I aspire to be both. We are very similar in the way we think, I for one want to take piano and voice lessons to improve my skill, and I love my iPod. Try out for a school musical or join your school’s glee club. I did and it’s one step closer to getting your dream to become a reality. 🙂
