Question by Britters: If your computer doesn’t have virus software can the computer download movies etc without you accepting?
Basically what I’m looking to know is if your computer doesnt have antivirus software on it can the computer download videos etc onto the desktop without you accepting it to do so?
I hope that makes sense, I got told this had happened but I didn’t think computers could do that?

It depends upon the security settings of the web browser, rather than the presence of antivirus software.
However, if there is no antivirus software, there is nothing to prevent malware from installing and changing your browser’s security settings.
Your computer also needs a firewall, to prevent viral worms from accessing it through your Internet connection, or they will install themselves and download more malware.
However, once malware gets hold of your computer, the only movies or other content that it’s likely to download will be advertising.
