I have a USB cable I really don’t know much about computers. I have my camcorder plugged in and nothing is happening the movie making software I use is Media Impression I don’t know what to do from there.

You should have seen a option box come when you plug in you usb camcorder check ( My computer).
Make your camcorder is in the view pictures mode. If it is than a icon will show up for you to open as a drive or folder. The program than will have that option available to see the content in a gallery.
Try a different usb port. Something the usb1.1 may work better than usb 2.0 Your computer may have both.
