The late director’s personal papers and other materials have been released by the Swedish Film Institute for a new L.A. exhibition at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. There’s a line in Kris Kristofferson’s song “He’s a Pilgrim” that poetically describes Swedish director Ingmar Bergman: “He’s a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction.”
