Inveraray & District at Gourock 2010
Inveraray and District Pipe Band making an impressive debut in Grade 1 at Gourock Highland Games held in Gourock Park on 9 May 2010. The band is playing the following tunes: Farewell to Nigg, An Cota Ruadh, Sound of Sleat (strathspey), Sound of Sleat (reel), Lexy MacAskill, The Water is Wide, Kilbrandon, Nach Damh sadh Am Minister, Thunderhead, and Alive. This is a young band which swept the boards in the Grade 2 competitions in 2009 and which has just been promoted to Grade 1. The players are also young – the typical age of the musicians here is 19. The band is a testament to what can be achieved with inspired leadership, solid systematic teaching embedded in the schools system, and strong community support.
