This was my appearance on THE JENSEN SHOW in Holland with Uri Geller and the other finalists from DE NIEUWE URI GELLER (“The Next Uri Geller”, the Dutch version of PHENOMENON). The Netherlands was the second country in which I had the priviledge of working on the Uri Geller show. Before working on the Dutch series I had also appeared as a mentalist on THE NEXT URI GELLER in Germany. The results of the competition in Holland were close and I was voted second place by a difference of 0.2%! That’s 2 calls out of a thousand. I had 37.5% of the viewers’ votes, and the winner, a Dutch performer, won with 37.7%! The third place performer had 24.8%. As far as I’m concerned, those were great results and as close as you can come to having two winners. Some people in the magic community here in Europe were sceptical at first that the show producers brought in Hayashi as a mentalist candidate. They thought it would never work, trying to sell a comedy close-upper as a serious stage mentalist, but that just shows me that they are stuck in the thinking that it’s the cards and coins that make the magician and not the performance skills. I am ecstatic about the fact that I made it this far on the show while working my regular full-time job lecturing at the University of Mannheim during the week, showing up to do the show on weekends, offering the producers complete acts with everything including my own concepts, scripts, props, music, costumes and choreography, and leaving the theatrical …
