SiPix Blink StyleCam

Manufactured in 2001 by SiPix Imaging, Inc. in China. SiPix was established in 1999 in Silicon Valley, California. At its introduction, the StyleCam was the smallest digital camera on the market. It measured only 3.4 x 2.3 x 1.0 inches (including the lens barrel) and weighed just 2.6 oz. It was powered by a single AAA battery and had 8MB of RAM built in for image storage. It features a 6.3mm f/3.0 lens (no flash) and a 640×480 “VGA” CMOS imager. It used a USB 1.1 interface to transfer the images to a Windows XP PC. A movie mode actually captures up to 180 still images at 3fps, and then combines these into an AVI video on a PC using a proprietary software package, SiPix AVI Maker. The camera used SDRAM memory, which means that battery is required to keep data in memory – if the battery runs down or is removed, images are lost. It can be used as a tethered USB webcam for video conferencing. As of this writing, SiPix no longer makes cameras, but display electronics instead.
