It doesn’t hurt to write rules called terms of use, and make users agree to them. In the terms of use, they have to agree not to do anything illegal, especially violating copyright law, yadda yadda yadda. Of course,if you know that users are doing something illegal on your site, or it should be obvious to you, you’re still responsible for stopping them.
I’d suggest paying a lawyer to put together the wording for you, as a small goof can make the whole thing invalid. If you’re just getting started, and don’t have a few hundred bucks yet, you might just copy one from one of the big corporate websites which also does sharing.
By the way, if this is a business, you should have two sources of protection from lawsuits. 1- you should incorporate, and make sure there’s not too many assets the business can be sued for 2- your home insurance probably includes a small personal liability clause that may cover lawsuits that target you, instead of your company. Neither one of these is foolproof, but it’s worth making sure you have both.
