Question by ryan n: making a movie/tv show using certain products?
if someone makes a movie or a TV show, and the main character wears a lot of Nike/Jordan clothes, or eats a certain brand name food, goes to a well-known restaurant such as burger king, McDonalds, etc. does the company making the movie have to get a license from these companies to show their product or pay the company? or can these things be put in freely?

I would think that it depends on the company and product. Sure most companies probably wouldn’t mind the free advertisement, but they might want compensation. Most lower budget films only mention brand names, but don’t really show them, or make up names of restaurants and products, use public locations or private homes or “mom & pop shops” for shooting because they can come cheap or just for free; although, they would still have to get certain forms/contracts signed for that, of course.
