Making a trade with my cousin. Sony PS3 60GB for Dell XPS 420 (Monitor and Speakers not included)?
Question by : Making a trade with my cousin. Sony PS3 60GB for Dell XPS 420 (Monitor and Speakers not included)?
Hi, everyone. I’m having somewhat of a little decision making problem at the moment. My cousin built a New Custom Rig and is willing to trade me his older Dell XPS 420 for my 60gig PS3. I’m wondering if it is a worthy trade or not. Here are the specs of the Computer:
Type: Dell XPS 420, ACPI x86 based PC
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate Edition 32 bit SP 1
Ram: 3 GB DDR3
Processor: Intel Viiv Core 2; Quadcore CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz
HDD: 500 GB; NTSF
CD/DVD drive: TSSTcorp SH-S223Q ATA Drive, Super Write Master [Lightscribe]
Sound, Video, Game controllers: HD Audio device, ATi Unified AVStream Driver, Lumanate USB
Modem: Conexant D850 56k V.90 DFVc
Network Adapter: Intel 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection
Lazer USB
Extra Features: Windows Sideshow, XPS MiniView, Built in TV Tuner, A/V port (red/white/yellow). Also, it has something called EVGA Mods Rigs, and Xcelerator (Probably something to do with the Tower itself)…
I couldn’t find more information, such as the speed of the RAM. I’m new to Vista so bear with me.
So, am I in for a bargain or am I getting ripped? It might seem like a silly question, but I don’t really play games anymore. I just wanted to know if it’s something fast and reliable for Movies (namely BD and DVD quality), and Music.
Oh, and the GPU is : XFX Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT 512mb
Actually the RAM is DDR2, not 3. The CPU is using 65nm Technology. Memory Timings at 5:5:5:15. 333mhz Frequency.

I am not a huge fan of Vista. If you are looking for a gaming machine, then I would not suggest using Vista as the OS!
That said, it has a decent graphics card, an awesome processor, and the build in TV tuner will come in handy.
The type of RAM isn’t that important… but I am surprised that it only has 3 gigs… See if you can’t get 4 from him if you do the trade.
Another question is what are you upgrading from? Are you unhappy with your current computer? If you don’t have that many issues, then you don’t need to get another computer.
However, if you only have a PS3 and you don’t play it that much/don’t like the games for it, then the swap may be good for you.
So, my best advice is: are you getting a good deal out of this, or is your cousin getting a PS3 on top of an upgraded computer? (because that’s what he did… he upgraded his computer and wants to get rid of his old one).
From a money standpoint, His old computer is probably more expensive that your PS3.
Quad Core = at least $ 200
500gb HD = $ 75
Lightscribe = $ 30
9800 GT = $ 150
Shell = $ 30
Power Unit = $ 75
Soooo…. it’s up to you 🙂
