Making Money at Home Even in a Slow Economy

Worries about a slow economy? Mystery shoppers still make money at home- significant money. What is mystery shopping? Let’s start with what it isn’t. It is not a job that will make you a super gazillionaire. It isn’t a normal nine to five where you are confined to one area for a specified amount of time. It isn’t job that can be done completely from the comfort of home in pajamas. Some if it can be done in p.j’s but most parts of a mystery shopping job is done on-site. Even though the economy is slow, companies still need evaluating and that is where a mystery shopper comes in.

What is mystery shopping? It is freedom. You choose which jobs you want to do and which you don’t want to do. It is entertainment. You get paid to do fun stuff like eating out and watching movies. It is flexibility, it works with your schedule. It is cha-ching.

Now don’t get me wrong you’re not going to get rich being a mystery shopper. At least I haven’t figured out how to do so. You can, however, make a good, comfortable living and you get paid to do things that you do anyway. I’ve made as much as forty dollars per hour. And if I were really organized I could probably do more. Who can do it? Anyone really. Anyone who shops. If you have a full time job then obviously you can’t do as much as someone who doesn’t have one. Students, stay at home parents, and those who work part time can make excellent money as mystery shoppers. Mystery shopping is a viable option for those looking to make extra money.

average customer’s point of view. The benefits provided by mystery shoppers eventually trickle down benefits to all customers because this is one way that companies know when their services are in need of improvement or lacking in some way.

Mystery shoppers go incognito most of the time, but there are some companies that require mystery shoppers to reveal themselves. Mystery shoppers are given a task to complete at retail establishments, restaurants, convenience stores, apartments, or even over the telephone, just to name a few examples. Mystery shoppers, also known as secret shoppers, give reports on various aspects of service such as speed, accuracy, professionalism, or whatever a company specifies.

Still not quite sure what all that means? Here’s a couple of examples of shops that I’ve done and the pay received. I did a mystery

shop once where I had to evaluate a grocery store for on several different criteria. I posed as a customer. I had to purchase one big item and two small items, I believe, both of which were reimbursable and my choice. I had to look at the overall appearance, the service, the promotions the store was running, the cleanliness, and store branding. I spent about 20 minutes in the store although I was not given a time requirement and I got paid . The report that I had to do afterward took about 10 minutes. Seriously it was one of the shorter reports that I’ve had to do. I got my check in the mail in about 2-3 weeks.

Another example of a mystery shop that I’ve done is for a popular casual dining chain that serves South Western cuisine. I was allowed to take someone out to dinner as my treat. Of course the person I brought with me was my husband and he knew

why I was looking at my watch frequently albeit discreetly. I had to evaluate the customer service of the servers in the restaurant and time how long it took them to bring each of our items. We enjoyed appetizers, entrees, and desert. I got to order 50 bucks worth of food and be reimbursed for all of that as well as for the tip. I gave a good tip even though the service was only mediocre. I guess the time for the entire shop was about 2 hours because we didn’t really consider eating a free dinner as being on the clock and were therefore in no rush to finish.

What kind of shopping do you like to do? Eating out? Shopping for new clothes or shoes? Watches? Are you looking for a new apartment to live in? Like watching movies? Believe it or not, there are –~~~~~~~~~~~~–
