Movie theaters pay a certain price for the movies that you and I see. Suppose a theater pays $ 1,500 for each showing of a popular movie. If they charge $ 7.50 for each ticket they sell, then they will lose money if ticket sales are less than $ 1,500. However, they will make a profit if ticket sales are greater than $ 1,500.

Well if they sell less than $ 1500 worth of tickets, they lose money. If they sell more than $ 1500 worth of tickets, they make money.
$ 1500/($ 7.50/ticket) = 200 tickets
So they need 200 tickets to break even. Less than 200, they will lose money. More than 200, they will make money.
Unless the parameters are otherwise defined, the range to lose money is x = [0, 199] and the range to make money is x = [201, infinity]. Where x is defined as the number of tickets sold.
