Question by : Meeting with a movie producer to turn my book into a movie, how do i protect myself and my story? tips?
What should i expect in terms of money?
here’s the deal, i am meeting two producers on Monday about a book that i wrote.
they want to turn it into a screenplay (for no charge) and help me turn it into a movie in return for profits, according to what the studio may have to offer; they will invest the money in it… but – i don’t know what to expect?? how do i protect my button line? what is the process of taking the screenplay and pitching it to the studios? and how much money can i expect to get from it? they said that it may cost about $ 30M to make such a movie, but im clueless about these things and there is no one to help me, i cannot pay an attorney, please help!!!!
thanks

I’d contact a literary agent who has dealt with film rights before as soon as possible because an agent will do everything in their power to get you the best possible deal. It’ll be easier for them to take advantage of you since you don’t know the process.
Congratulations by the way!
