Minimum PC requirements for 720p video editing?

Hello! :{D

I have a Flip Mino HD camcorder. My current PC has very choppy/jumpy playback of the video files, making it extremely difficult to edit them.

I’m looking to buy a new PC, but I don’t have a huge budget. So I want to know the minimum requirements of a PC to be able to playback 720p video files smoothly and edit them to make home movies.

Also, will I need more advanced video edit software? (I currently use Video Edit Magic)

ATM I’ve gathered from google that I’ll need at least 1gb of RAM, but I’m not entirely sure about CPU speed or anything else.

2 GB of RAM should be bare minimum.
I wouldn’t get anything less than 4 GB.

Video editing and encoding is very CPU based.
Something like a 6 core would be ideal.
