Need a new video making program?

My Windows Movie Maker won’t take in my videos for some reason which I don’t know. And since I don’t really know what the problem is I’m guessing I need to download a better video making program.
Can someone please give me a link to a good, free download, program?
(ps. I recorded with a DMC-GF1 camera, is it the cause? I really don’t know =.=” )

i have used a few other video editing programs and the easiest one has been
Photo MovieTheater. Very easy to use with professional features and
same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful.

If you are looking for special effects such as light sabers, lasers,
running on roof tops then you will need Adobe After Effects very good
program that can produce some genuine looking film effects however does take some learning and cost a lot
